Several stories written Wednesday suggested that the Cleveland Browns misidentified a fan who threw beer at Tennessee Titans defensive back Logan Ryan during the team’s loss this past Sunday and implicated a Cleveland DJ who said he wasn’t at the game.
The Browns said Wednesday night — per the Associated Press’ Tom Withers — that they have not identified the beer-throwing fan, and that an investigation continues.
Eric Smith tweeted that the Browns contacted him about the incident and issued a stadium ban despite the fact that he was working Sunday as a DJ and hasn’t attended a game since 2010.
“This individual person’s action is not tolerated in our building as it is not reflective of our fan base or city,” the team said in a statement. “We are currently addressing the situation internally, along with NFL Security, and we believe we have identified the person involved. He will ultimately face an indefinite ban from FirstEnergy Stadium for the unacceptable behavior, which is in clear violation for our Fan Code of Conduct.”
The Cincinnati Bengals visit FirstEnergy Stadium on Dec. 8 and welcome the Browns to Paul Brown Stadium in the regular-season finale on Dec. 29.
